I'm relucant to post on Apple's forums due to their policy and current lawsuit I have filed against them.īut to help out a community member, there is NO point in using the HDMI to capture HDV footage. There are other HD monitoring/capturing solutions but they are expensive $3000+. I couldn't monitor HD projects without it so I'd be working blind. Intensity card is good for the price $250 - I use it mostly for monitoring Motion HD and FCP HD projects to a HD TV. These are really just very fast banks of flash memory stick with a SATA controller interface (over simplified).
SSD (Solid State Drives) are slowly becoming more affordable with larger formats and can support high transfer rates.
Your money is better invested in a high quality camcorder (good ones start around $5000 all the way up to $500,000+). Your current video weakness is the Canon HV30 ($1000), and yes that camcorder will never match the specs of a BBC studio camera (have you seen those cameras? Lens the size of head).ĭon't waste your money on 15000 RPM SCSI drives and high end RAID controllers with what you currently have for camcorder. So I wouldn't go looking for very expensive RAID solutions. For best performance you want to match the drives that make up the RAID set.īut from the sounds of it, RAID is not something you will need since you record to the HV30 and not direct to the Mac.
